The cost-of-living crisis is forcing every home and business to look at their energy costs and see where savings can be made, especially older homes and buildings with solid walls where poor energy efficiency is a particular problem

CorkSol UK, based in Halifax, West Yorkshire, has developed an insulating system which is changing the ways in which we insulate our homes. The product has already proven popular for use on the outside of houses, where it is sprayed over the top of brickwork or render, but the coating can also be used as an internal system which brings added functionality, such as eliminating mould and condensation from walls, and energy savings.

Chris Heaton, of CorkSol, said: “With all the talk of the cost of living crisis and soaring energy bills we feel we have a new and sustainable solution which might be of help when it comes to keeping homes warm.”

Outside, SprayCork is applied to all external walls to provide an insulating and acoustic barrier. This one-off application provides instant cover, but installation is weather dependent, with winter winds, rain and snow potentially causing delays.

Spaying on internal walls has the same great benefits – tests* show that it cuts heat loss through solid walls by 30 per cent. And, with fuel bills spiralling, SprayCork is a cost effective way of helping to cut your bills.

Cork has a naturally textured surface, which looks granulated but actually feels soft. Some clients choose to keep that surface exposed as a feature wall, or have a thin plaster skim put on top, to allow normal decorating to take place.

If you live in a conservation area or have an external surface you don’t want to see covered, internal SprayCork is the ideal solution.

What prep work do I have to do?

Next to nothing! As SprayCork is applied at a thickness of only 6mm, and the skim just 2mm thick, the end result is thinner than light switches, skirting boards etc, so there’s no need to remove them before spraying begins, they are simply covered up while the work is done.

Compared to some conventional internal insulation panels, which can be up to 200mm thick, SprayCork is so thin that you lose hardly any room space, making it an ideal solution to insulate your home

What surfaces is it suitable for?

SprayCork from CorkSol can be used on external and internal walls within most homes or businesses.

Kevin McCloud, presenter of TV’s Grand Designs, says cork systems provide a thermal, breathable, acoustic solution for walls and roofs.

CorkSol say the product is a long-term, low-maintenance solution and offers a 25 year warranty.
